VINEYARD & FARMING
Stakhovsky’s 22 hectares of vineyards are near Muzhievo village in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains in the Zakarpattia Region, bordering Hungary and Slovakia. The first vineyards were planted here more than 2,000 years ago, before the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The vineyard is sustainably farmed and protected from cold air by the Carpathian Mountains and is situated on the Pannonian Plain which brings warm air from the west.

The vineyard’s elevation is from 100m to 200m, which provides great drainage. It has a Southwest orientation, a slope of 12 degrees and plenty of sun (average of 3,400 o C/year), combined with 650mm of average annual rainfall, ensuring consistency and balance in the wines. The soils are limestone and loam with some volcanic clay. The vineyard is planted to Traminer, Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Saperavi, and Zweigelt with plans to add Furmint and Pinot Noir.

WINEMAKING
Following hand-picking, fermentation in 5 ton stainless steel tanks is followed by aging in small seasoned French Oak barrels. Bottled unfiltered.
